This coming Sunday, we will celebrate Pentecost together in conjunction with Pastor Rosie’s installation and licensing. “Pentecost is the Greek name given to the Jewish Feast of Weeks; it was celebrated fifty days after Passover and was initially the festival at which the first-fruits of the grain harvest were presented (Dt. 16.9)…Christian celebration of Pentecost marks the birth of the church fifty days after Jesus’ resurrection” (Take Our Moments and Our Days: An Anabaptist Prayer Book, Volume 2, p. 686).
As we prepare to celebrate the Christian church’s birthday, I invite you to read through Luke 11:1-13, Acts 2, and other passages of Scripture that deal with the Holy Spirit (e.g. Romans 8, Galatians 5, etc.). Also consider the following reflective questions:
- What experiences do you have of praying for the Holy Spirit?
- What experiences do you have of receiving the Holy Spirit?
- How is the Spirit alive and active in our world today?
Feel free to post other related thoughts and questions as well.
Peace, Phil
